Hydrogen bonds of interfacial water in human breast cancer tissue compared to lipid and DNA interfaces

چکیده
The paper presents the results for water confined in a human breast cancerous tissue, a single stranded DNA, a double stranded DNA and in phospholipids (DPPC—D--Phosphatidylcholine, dipalmitoyl). The interfacial water in DNA and lipids is represented by a double band in the region of the OH stretching mode of water corresponding to the symmetric and asymmetric vibrational modes, in contrast to water confined in the cancerous breast tissue where only one band at 3311 cm has been recorded. The marked red-shift of the maximum peak position of the OH stretching mode confirms that the vibrational properties of the interfacial water observed in restricted biological environment differ drastically from those in bulk water. The change of vibrational pattern of behavior may be due to the decoupling of the vibrations of the OH bonds in water molecule or change of the vibrational selection rules at biological interfaces. According to our knowledge Raman vibrational properties of water confined in the normal and cancerous breast tissue of the same patient have not been reported in literature yet. Here we have also presented the first Raman ‘optical biopsy’ images of the non-cancerous and cancerous (infiltrating ductal cancer) human breast tissues.

Coupled Diffusion in Lipid Bilayers upon Close Approach
Biomembrane interfaces create regions of slowed water dynamics in their vicinity. When two lipid bilayers come together, this effect is further accentuated, and the associated slowdown can affect the dynamics of larger-scale processes such as membrane fusion. We have used molecular dynamics simulations to examine how lipid and water dynamics are affected as two lipid bilayers approach each othe...

Abstract Introduction: Bovine leukemia virus (BLV) causes enzootic bovine leukemia, andis closely related to human T-lymphotropic virus type 1. It expresses microRNAs of unknown function and codes Tax, the protein that mediates malignant transformation. BLV is capable of infecting B- and T-lymphocytes, endothelial cells, and mammary epithelial cells of cattle. Several studies demonstrated the ...

Background: Various studies proposed virus infection is to be a possible cause of human breast cancer. However, the data argue the association between virus and cancer are inconsistent. This study was conducted to detect whether HPV-DNA is present in tissue samples of breast cancer in Isfahan province. Materials and Methods: Paraffin embedded formalin fixed specimens were prepared from 40 brea...

Background: Breast cancer is the malignancy in humans and other mammals. Several risk factors are involved in their appearance such as higher hormone levels and obesity. Identification of a mouse mammary tumor virus supports a viral etiology for breast tumors in animals. Viruses have been implicated in the development of various cancers, but viral induction for formation breast cancer is contro...
